“Today I was shocked and saddened to hear the news that our good friend, Shawn Perine, had succumbed to his battle with cancer. I first met Shawn years ago when he was a writer covering bodybuilding contests for FLEX magazine. I was impressed with his knowledge and passion for every facet of the sport. He knew all the athletes dating back to the very beginning and could tell you the results of every Mr. Olympia. That passion grew even more through the years as he rose up to become editor-in-chief, and then chief content director of Muscle & FitnessFLEX, and Muscle & Fitness Hers. Shawn loved bodybuilding and was dedicated to the fit lifestyle. He will be sorely missed but never forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.” —Jim Manion, IFBB Pro League and NPC President

We are all saddened to learn that a HUGE FRIEND to the entire fitness industy passed away today, Shawn Perine. He was currently the Editor In Chief of Flex Magazine /Muscle & Fitness & not only 1 of the nicest people I knew, but always in phenomenal  shape. I’m not acting as if we were best friends but every time Shawn & I would see each other it’s like we picked up our conversations where we last left off. He was always asking about Tyler Manion’s wrestling career & Cassie Manion’s soccer career. Next we would talk about super hero movies. Then we would dive into happenings, past & present, in the NPC & IFBB Professional League. The fitness world lost a great person today & he will truly be missed.  J.M. Manion

My condolences to the family and friends of Shawn Perine. I have had the pleasure of having known Shawn and his mom since the early 1990’s. We all trained at Bev Francis Powerhouse Gym and were part of one big fitness family. Shawn was an extremely nice guy and I always enjoyed our conversations. He will be missed by many and I know that his passion for fitness will live on through his writings and for all of those who were inspired by his teachings. Rest in peace my friend – Frank Sepe, NPC NEWS ONLINE Editor In Chief
